Commercial Charging Stations
A successful partnership accelerates the expansion of EV charging infrastructure in Mexico

Background:

The electric vehicle (EV) industry in Mexico has been experiencing rapid growth. Recently, leading automotive companies such as BYD, JAC, and Volvo, in collaboration with Mexico’s new energy transportation operators, established the Mexican Electric Vehicle Association. Their goal is to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles and achieve a 50% share of EVs in new car sales by 2030. In 2023, Mexico’s electric vehicle production exceeded 100,000 units, up 37%, and annual market sales surpassed 14,000 units, a growth of 149.4%, accounting for 19% of the national automotive market.

Mexico’s automotive industry, traditionally driven by fuel vehicles, is a key economic pillar. However, with the North American market transitioning toward electrification, companies like Tesla are expanding their production capacity in Mexico, and Chinese suppliers are actively participating in this transformation.

As the demand for electric vehicles in Mexico surged, there was a pressing need to develop a reliable and scalable public charging network to support the transition. Our partner in Mexico, operating across three key business sectors—EV leasing, ride-hailing, and charging solutions, has exclusively chosen Grasen’s charging stations as part of their business development.

Solution provided:

Grasen Power has been a strategic partner since 2019. Over the past six years, we have worked closely with our partner to deploy over 300 DC charging stations across Mexico, with power capacities ranging from 120kW to 150kW. These chargers are part of the public charging network, which includes several integrated charging and leisure stations, such as cafes, for user convenience. In addition, our partners collaborate with automotive brands like BYD, BMW, and Volvo, and at these co-branded charging stations, owners of these vehicles can enjoy discounted charging services. Their ride-hailing and leasing vehicles also benefit from discounted rates, and the stations are open to the public as well.

Technical advantages from Grasen:

Multiple Charging Standards: Grasen’s chargers provide flexible switching with CCS1, CCS2, and NACS standards, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of electric vehicles.

VIN Verification:VIN verification function allows pre-registered drivers to use plug-and-charge technology, with no need for scanning or card payments. This not only saves time for drivers but also prevents unauthorized transactions where drivers might charge private vehicles at a lower price.

Adaptation to Harsh Environmental Conditions:Grasen’s chargers are designed for Mexico’s challenging conditions, where temperatures can reach up to 53°C, and some areas are at high altitudes. Additionally, the independent cooling design ensures continuous and stable operation, even in extreme heat, with temperatures as high as 55°C.

Remote Diagnosis and Monitoring:Our charging stations support remote diagnosis and monitoring; this can reduce our partner’ labor costs and accelerate problem resolution. We offer comprehensive technical support and after-sales services: 24-hour standby service with a 2-hour response time and a 4-hour resolution window.

Results:

The collaboration has significantly contributed to the expansion of Mexico’s EV charging infrastructure. Since 2021, over 300 Grasen charging stations have been installed, with plans to achieve a 50% market share by the end of 2024. Our partnership has helped establish a reliable, efficient, and scalable charging network, meeting the rising demand for EV charging across Mexico.
